[Hinews] SEOUL, South Korea — All four hospitals affiliated with Hallym University Medical Center—Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, and Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital—have achieved outstanding results in the 2023 second-cycle, first-round breast and liver cancer care assessments conducted by South Korea’s Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA).

The latest evaluation, reflecting recent shifts in the medical landscape such as diversified cancer treatment approaches and rising long-term survival rates, underwent a comprehensive overhaul of its metrics and scope. Moving beyond a surgery-centric focus, the assessment now encompasses the entire spectrum of cancer care, with an increased emphasis on treatment outcomes and patient-centered metrics.

In the breast cancer evaluation, which included 138 institutions, all four Hallym-affiliated hospitals secured the highest grade of 1. Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital scored 94.5, Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital 94.6, Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital 96.2, and Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital 95.6—each surpassing the average scores for tertiary and general hospitals.

This assessment expanded to include 15 metrics, covering both general and liver cancer-specific indicators, and shifted away from assigning grades to focus on detailed performance metrics. Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital achieved perfect scores in critical areas, including specialist staffing, the proportion of patients receiving surgery within 30 days of diagnosis, patient education and counseling rates, and post-treatment follow-up testing, earning recognition for both expertise and systematic care delivery in liver cancer treatment.

The results highlight Hallym University Medical Center’s commitment to high-quality, patient-focused cancer care across its network, positioning its hospitals as leaders in South Korea’s evolving oncology landscape.
