Launched by HIRA in 2014, the Pneumonia Appropriateness Assessment evaluates the quality of pneumonia diagnosis and treatment across medical institutions in South Korea to improve patient care standards. The latest assessment, spanning October 2023 to March 2024, reviewed 599 hospitals nationwide treating adult inpatients aged 18 and older.

Key evaluation indicators included the rate of pulse oximetry testing, use of severity scoring tools, timely antibiotic administration (within eight hours of hospital arrival), readmission rates, and mortality rates.
Wonju Severance Christian Hospital achieved an outstanding composite score of 99.6—well above the national average of 82.9—earning highest Grade 1 designation.
