[Hinews] On September 22, LG Household & Health Care, a leading South Korean cosmetics and consumer goods company, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Blumeige, a global biotech firm, to
advance research on skin longevity using synthetic biology. The agreement was formalized at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, marking a significant step in the quest for innovative anti-aging solutions.

Blumeige, a leading global supplier of hyaluronic acid raw materials, specializes in synthetic biology and produces ingredients for pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, and cosmetics. The collaboration aims to harness LG Household & Health Care’s research and development expertise alongside Blumeige’s cutting-edge synthetic biology technologies to create groundbreaking beauty solutions.

An LG Household & Health Care representative emphasized the evolving landscape of the global beauty industry, noting, “The focus is shifting beyond mere wrinkle reduction to slowing the aging process at the cellular level.” The partnership will target key hallmarks of aging—cellular and molecular damage, inflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction—addressing these factors to promote healthier, longer-lasting skin.

The collaboration is poised to develop novel, high-efficacy ingredients using synthetic biology, a field that leverages engineered biological systems to produce targeted compounds. By combining their strengths, the two companies aim to redefine standards in the beauty industry with solutions that address the root causes of skin aging.

Songyan Zou, vice president of Blumeige, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This is an opportunity to showcase innovative biotechnology in South Korea and globally.” Zou highlighted Blumeige’s expertise in advanced fermentation and manufacturing processes, underscoring the company’s commitment to driving progress in the beauty sector.

Moving forward, LG Household & Health Care and Blumeige plan to co-develop synthetic biology-based ingredients and pursue collaborative research centered on skin longevity. This partnership signals a bold move toward redefining anti-aging strategies, with potential implications for the global beauty and biomedical industries.
