[Hinews] Inje University Ilsan Paik Hospital hosted a ceremony on October 15 in its sixth-floor seminar room to mark the completion of the 2024-26 Lee Jong-wook Fellowship Clinical Program, honoring ten healthcare professionals from Laos. The event, attended by Hospital President Won-Joo Choi and other key figures, celebrated the participants’ achievements after an intensive five-month training program.

The cohort, comprising seven physicians and three nurses selected from Laos’ national medical and educational institutions, underwent tailored clinical training at Ilsan Paik Hospital. The curriculum covered critical areas of South Korea’s healthcare system, including medical quality control, patient safety, and patient-centered care. Through a blend of theoretical instruction and hands-on practice, participants honed skills applicable to real-world clinical settings. A cornerstone of the program was one-on-one mentoring and case-based training, designed to build practical expertise.

“This fellowship is a vital step toward strengthening the capabilities of Laotian healthcare professionals and fostering international healthcare collaboration,” said President Won-Joo Choi. Hoon Kim, director of the hospital’s Center for International Development Cooperation, added, “We are committed to continuing our support for capacity-building among healthcare professionals in developing nations.”

The Lee Jong-wook Fellowship Program, named after the late Dr. Lee Jong-wook, former director-general of the World Health Organization, aims to enhance the expertise of healthcare workers in developing countries and promote global health cooperation. Administered by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare and supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, the program has been managed by Ilsan Paik Hospital since 2024, focusing on training medical professionals from Laos and Bangladesh.
