[Hinews] SEOUL — South Korea’s Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) hosted a delegation from Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) under the Ministry of Public Health on June 4-5 to discuss strategies for preparing for and responding to public health crises in Southeast Asia. The visit aimed to enhance collaboration in proactively addressing infectious disease pandemics.

The two agencies exchanged insights on international infectious disease surveillance systems, emergency operations center management, public health crisis response, and resource management, while exploring avenues for mutual cooperation. Southeast Asia’s tropical climate and high levels of human and material exchange elevate the region’s risk for infectious disease outbreaks, positioning Thailand as a key partner.

The KDCA committed to ongoing information and experience sharing with Thailand and other Southeast Asian nations to expand cooperation. KDCA Commissioner Jee Young-mee emphasized, “Southeast Asia is a frequent destination for South Korean travelers and faces significant infectious disease risks, making collaboration with Thailand vital. This cooperation will strengthen both domestic and international disease prevention capabilities.”
