Professor Kim began performing robotic surgeries at the hospital in 2019 and reached the 2,000-surgery mark in just six years. An expert in robotic surgery for renal and prostate cancers, Kim introduced the clinical use of ischemia-free partial nephrectomy (i.e., a surgery performed without cutting off blood supply to the kidney) in South Korea—a procedure that removes cancerous tissue while preserving kidney function. He has performed over 800 such surgeries, the highest number in South Korea and one of the leading volumes in Asia.

During the ceremony, Intuitive Surgical Korea—the maker of the da Vinci robotic surgical system, officially recognized Kim’s 2,000-case milestone and commended his dedication to patient-centered surgical care.
“This milestone reflects the trust our patients place in us to deliver better treatment,” Kim said at the ceremony. “I am committed to continuing compassionate care to support patients in their fight against cancer.”
